Youth Homelessness

Every night there are 44,000 young Australians without a safe and secure place to sleep. Not every young person is able to live with their family and for many, foster families are not available. They need a safe and secure place to rebuild their lives. The Property Industry Foundation exists to solve this problem of youth homelessness.

The Property Industry Foundation believes that every young Australian deserves a safe, secure home environment – which provides a foundation of opportunity from which they can determine their future. We lead & coordinate the efforts of our industry, along with our charity partners, to create these safe & secure environments.

Our Purpose

The PIF House Program

The Foundation has been building and refurbishing homes for homeless youth since 1996. We bring together the property and construction industry to build homes for homeless youth through a cost-efficient model, The PIF House Program.  This unique 50/50 building model effectively takes every $1 raised and doubles its value. Each night, 1 in 3 young people are being turned away from supported accommodation services, through our PIF House program, the Property Industry Foundation is increasing the supply of accommodation for these young people. The Foundation has been building and refurbishing homes for homeless youth since 1996. Once built, we hand these new homes over to our frontline charity partners which then run the homes. These partners include Wesley Mission, Stepping Stone House, the Salvation Army, Lighthouse Foundation and Brisbane Youth Services.

Last financial year, our industry-wide collaboration has added 12 more rooms to bring our total of bedrooms for homeless youth to 103. We currently have 32 in our pipeline for development. These include.

  •  A 6-bedroom house in Melbourne for Lighthouse Foundation. Frasers Property Australia has already committed to be the pro bono builder and PIF needs to raise funds for the entire build.

  • A 4-bedroom house in Sydney for Platform Youth Services. This house will be for young people experiencing or at risk of homelessness aged 12-25 years. It will enable these vulnerable young people to live in medium-term housing and receive case management support to enter and remain engaged in tertiary education.

  • A 12-bedroom house in Brisbane for Brisbane Youth Services. This house will provide transitional accommodation for young people looking to get their lives on track.

All funds raised will be allocated to the PIF House Program and help us to build more homes such as those mentioned above.
